Recent research shows that many Australian etailers aren't happy with their ecommerce platforms.
A study by Forrester Research found that nearly 50 percent of the country's online retailers plan to switch ecommerce platforms within the next two years. However, most etailers aren't overly concerned with mobile commerce - despite reports that Australia has one of the highest rates of mobile phone ownership in the world. According to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, mobile network coverage is available to more than 98 percent of the population.
Most etailers told Forrester that their main ecommerce problem was their failure to anticipate rapid growth in the industry. The ecommerce platforms they selected years ago are no longer capable of handling the increased flow of online shoppers.
Forty-six percent of the study's respondents also stated that the most important sales-driving feature of their ecommerce platforms was the ability to add multiple pictures. Another 15 percent cited video as a crucial ecommerce platform capability.
