Online search giant Google has announced plans to acquire the online retailer Like.com.
Like.com uses a unique technique to help introduce shoppers to products they may not have otherwise stumbled across. Rather than returning specific items - such as televisions or trousers - the site groups items by characteristics such as shape, colour and size. The technology, called "visual shopping," will add another dimension to Google's search results when online shoppers log on to research a purchase.
But the merger won't put an end to Like.com's innovation.
"We were the first to bring visual search to shopping, the first to build an automated cross-matching system for clothing, and more," writes Like.com founder Munjal Shah on the company's official website. "We didn't stop there, and don't have plans to stop now."
According to TechCrunch, the deal is worth a reported US$100 million.
